Industry Formats, Guidelines & White Papers

PTDA is dedicated to working with distributors and manufacturers to take cost out of the power transmission/motion control distribution channel. Through the creation of standardized formats for the electronic transfer of data between distributors and manufacturers, PTDA’s formats streamline transactions between multiple enterprise software systems and databases, eliminating the need for re-entry of data and reducing the errors associated with manual entry.

The following association-developed formats are available at no charge to help industry participants increase the efficiency of the supply chain:
Standardized ASCII tab-delimited format for electronic transmission of manufacturer price updates.
Standardized ASCII tab-delimited format for distributor transmission of cost of goods sold (point-of-sale) information. Also provided are tools for use by manufacturers and distributors in determining how much information should be shared, how the data should be provided from the distributor to the manufacturer and how the data will be used. "Guidelines for Sharing Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) Information" helps distributors and manufacturers determine how much information should be shared, how the data should be provided from the distributor to the manufacturer and how the data will be used.
Standardized XML format to automate stock checks, allowing distributors to electronically query manufacturers about product availability. "Guidelines for Establishing Inventory Request and Response Connectivity between Distributor and Manufacturer" identifies the information both distributors and manufacturers need to know in order to put into place systems allowing distributors to access product availability information directly from a manufacturer's database.
The information presented in PTDA's  "Millions at Stake--Do You Have a Strategy Around Rich Attribute Data?" white paper highlights and describes the existing challenges and opportunities for solutions around rich attribute data. Implementing a data content strategy around rich attribute data is critical and necessary to every PTDA member company. PTDA’s “Digital Asset Best Practices Guideline” serves as a reference as members work with the many forms of rich attribute data.  Whether upgrading website content, developing video to promote your solutions or enhancing your electronic catalogs, making good data choices about format and specifications is critical. This set of guidelines serves as a practical tool to assist you in engaging customers, suppliers and stakeholders in an efficient manner.
