VMI: A Practitioner's Set of Guidelines

In the power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) industry, distributors and manufacturers have always understood that effective inventory management is critical to the bottom line, but traditionally those organizations have worked independently to drive for efficiency and effectiveness. Vendor management inventory exists to facilitate the optimization of inventory across the supply chain between manufacturer and distributor, and the results can be mutually beneficial.

PTDA, in its ongoing efforts to develop best-in-class business practices among distributors and manufacturers, has issued this white paper that provides information to help distributors and manufacturers explore vendor managed inventory and make an informed decision as to whether implementing this type of relationship will benefit all. VMI: A Practitioner’s Set of Guidelines provides both a distributor and manufacturer perspective in regards to implementation, measuring results and benefits of VMI. Also included in this white paper is a case study, glossary of terms and a checklist of prerequisites for VMI participation.
