Manufacturing Day

Manufacturing Day is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers.

Although Manufacturing Day officially occurs each year on the first Friday in October, any day can be Manufacturing Day. The event is meant to introduce the public to manufacturing as a career opportunity. By opening up your facility to your neighbors and school students, you get them interested in your company. They can see close-up what a manufacturing or distribution facility looks like. This can change their perception of the industry and in particular your company. Impress your neighbors and they will remember your company when someone they know is looking for a job.  You couldn’t get a better referral!

Manufacturing Day 2019 is scheduled for Friday, October 4. In 2018, Manufacturing Day was celebrated with nearly 3,000 events nationwide throughout the year. Read the successes from our members ABB and Flexco who participated in Manufacturing Day last year.

ABB has participated in Manufacturing Day for the past five years. In 2018, 30 locations from all four divisions of the company participated. Each location planned their own event based on their local community. One location held multiple tours and encouraged parental involvement since they play a role in a child’s career choice. Another location hosted over 500 students in grades five through twelve from eight schools. The students saw equipment demonstrations and, of course robots, which were the biggest hit for all. “If you get the students behind the walls of manufacturing, they will see the huge variety of career options available to them,” said Tracy Long, VP Communications for the motors and mechanical business.

Flexco celebrated Manufacturing Day in 2018 by inviting local high school students to its facility. Students were given a tour with demonstrations and were treated to lunch where Flexco used the opportunity to talk about their internship program. “The demonstration of our innovative collaborative robotic equipment for machine tending and material handling was a big hit with the students,” says Juli Kieronski, HR Generalist.

PT WORK Force® endorses Manufacturing Day because distribution is intimately linked with manufacturing and is an important element of the supply chain.
