Power Transmission Distributors Association is...

the leading association for the power transmission/motion control industrial distribution channel, bringing together distributors and manufacturers.

Internships are a great way for you and a potential employee to “test drive” each other to see if the position is a good fit before hiring a candidate.  It allows both the employer and potential employee to see if they are right for the job.  Internships can be paid or unpaid, secured through institutions of higher learning or found on your own.  Below are some resources to assist you with ideas and advice.

Start an Internship Program

The PT WORK® Force D.I.Y. Guide: "Establishing Your Company's Internship Program" was created to help companies working in power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) distribution connect with students in ways that build relationships, educate young people and introduce the field of PT/MC distribution to the younger generation. The guide:
  • Defines internship program
  • Highlights benefits of an internship program
  • Identifies program starting steps
  • Provides a preparedness audit

Already have an internship program?

The "Find-an-Internship" directory is available at IDCareers.org for students to search for industrial distribution employers who offer internships.

Students can search by company name, city, state or zip. They can then find the company name, location and email address of the person to contact to find out more.

To list your internship opportunity at no cost in the "Find-an-Internship" directory, so that students can find you, simply send the following contact information to foundation@ptda.org:
  • Your name
  • Company and website
  • City/State/Zip
  • Name, email and phone of person the student should contact to learn more about the internship opportunity you are offering

Want to be more proactive in finding a potential intern?

Use the "Find-an-Intern" directory to research school programs that offer internships.  It’s been designed for employers to search for schools with internship programs. Search by school name (directory only includes community/vocational colleges and four-year universities that have an industrial distribution or similar program), zip code, city or state. The directory provides contact information at each school to assist in seeking an intern for your company.

A strategic relationship between a distributor and a college can yield innumerable benefits, and nowhere is that more evident than with an internship program. Read more on this topic in this Modern Distribution Management article.
