Manufacturers’ Sales Drop in the U.S. and Canada According to
PTDA's July 2010 Market Outlook Report
Chicago, Ill. — September 23, 2010
—Sales of power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) products by
U.S. manufacturers dropped in the first month of the third quarter by
1.3 percent compared to the previous month and Canadian
manufacturers’ sales dropped by 12.3 percent according to July
2010 sales data released by the Power Transmission Distributors
Association (PTDA) in its Market Outlook Report.
Although sales dropped in July, sales year-to-date are still ahead of
the same period in 2009. In the U.S., year-to-date sales are up 7.6
percent over the same period in 2009. In Canada, sales are 10.3 percent
ahead of 2009.
For the third consecutive month, confidence in the market by U.S.
manufacturers holds a neutral position of 5.0, while Canadian
manufacturers’ confidence dropped from 5.2 back to 4.9 from 5.1 on
a scale of 1 (very pessimistic) to 10 (outstanding).
Month-to-month sales for product categories between June 2010 and
July 2010 for U.S. and Canadian manufacturers are reported below.
