PTDA Releases Market Outlook Report Data for April 2006
Chicago, Ill. -- June 7, 2006 -- The Power Transmission Distributors
Association (PTDA) today released the April trend data for distributors
and manufacturers of power transmission/motion control (PT/MC)
products.
In April, U.S. distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC
products rose 10.1 percent as compared to sales for January through
April 2005. Sales decreased 9.5 percent over the previous month
and were up 5.3 percent as compared to April 2005.
Days sales in accounts receivables increased 8.4 percent as compared
over March 2006 and went up 1.8 percent as compared to the same month
last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in April was 8.9,
compared to 9.3 in 2005.
For April, the confidence level of U.S. distributors declined to 6.7
from 7.3 in March on a 10-point scale.
Canadian distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products
grew 8.2 percent as compared to sales for January through April
2005. Sales fell 10.0 percent over the previous month and
decreased 0.8 percent as compared to April 2005.
Days sales in accounts receivables increased 11.6 percent over March
2006 and went up 9.8 percent as compared to the same month last
year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in April was 7.7,
compared to 7.9 in 2005.
For April, the confidence level of Canadian distributors remained
flat at 6.8 on a 10-point scale.
In April, U.S. manufacturers’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC
products rose 7.4 percent as compared to sales for January through April
2005. Sales were down 12.3 percent over the previous month and
decreased 0.3 percent as compared to April 2005. As compared to
March, sales of standard industrial motors increased. Sales of
mounted bearings, unmounted bearings, variable speed drives, positioning
system/linear motion products, gear products, mechanical drive systems
and other PT products, clutches and brakes, and shaft couplings
decreased.
Year-to-date orders of PT/MC products from U.S. manufacturers grew
8.9 percent as compared to 2005. April orders decreased 0.7
percent over March, but were up 7.3 percent as compared to April
2005. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in April was 9.2,
compared to 9.9 in 2005.
For April, the confidence level of U.S. manufacturers fell to 5.6
from 5.7 in March on a 10-point scale.
Canadian manufacturers’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products
increased 3.4 percent as compared to sales for January through April in
2005. Sales fell 13.2 percent over the previous month and
decreased 3.7 percent as compared to April 2005. As compared to
March, sales of standard industrial motors, positioning systems/linear
motion products, and shaft couplings increased. Sales of mounted
bearings, unmounted bearings, variable speed drives, gear products,
mechanical drive systems and other PT products, and clutches and brakes
decreased.
Annualized sales to inventory ratio in April was 7.0, compared to 7.8
in 2005.
For April, the confidence level of Canadian manufacturers fell to 5.0
from 5.1 in March on a 10-point scale.
