PTDA Releases Guidelines to Succesfully Launch New Products through Distribution

Chicago, Ill.—November 12, 2009—In continuation of its ongoing efforts to facilitate partnerships between distributors and manufacturers, the Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) recently released its “Guidelines for Launching a New Power Transmission/Motion Control Product through Distribution.”

New products are viewed as the lifeblood of business. In a recent survey by RSM McGladrey of 920 manufacturing and wholesale distribution executives, 95 percent of companies plan to innovate products or processes, with new product development and product line extensions reported most frequently (IS Weekly, “Survey: Economic Rebound Nears,” June 25, 2009).

Successful product introductions require the people introducing new products into the marketplace--product development, manufacturers’ sales force and power transmission/motion control distributors--to communicate and coordinate their efforts.  Adapted by a task force of the Industry Relations Committee from a publication originally created by the National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED), PTDA's "Guidelines for Successfully Launching a New Power Transmission/Motion Control Product through Distribution" gets down to the nuts-and-bolts of what it takes to achieve buy-in throughout the distributor's organization.  A succinct checklist of the recommended information and audiences ensures all parties are on board when introducing a new product.

The publication is available on PTDA’s Web site at www.ptda.org/NewProduct.

Founded in 1960, the Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) is the leading association for the industrial power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) distribution channel.  A U.S.-based trade association, PTDA represents 198 power transmission/motion control distribution firms that generate more than $10 billion in sales and span 3,500 locations in North America and 11 other countries.  PTDA members also include 187 manufacturers that supply the PT/MC industry.

PTDA is dedicated to providing exceptional networking, targeted education, relevant information and leading-edge business tools to help distributors and manufacturers meet marketplace demands competitively and profitably.  For more information, visit www.ptda.org.
