PTDA Foundation Awarded Training Grant
Chicago, Ill. -- January 13, 2006 --
The Power Transmission Distributors
Association (PTDA) Foundation recently
was awarded a $55,000 grant by
The Manufacturing Institute, the
research and education arm of the
National Association of
Manufacturers. The grant will support a
Foundation-led alliance to expand the
organization’s Industry Career’s
Pathway(ICP)(SM) initiative in
Cleveland, Ohio.
WIRE-Net -- a not-for- profit economic
development organization serving
Cleveland’s manufacturing
business leaders -- is partnering with the PTDA
Foundation in this important community
initiative designed to increase the
profitability of industrial
distribution and manufacturing employers by
connecting them with workforce
development resources.
Through this grant, the PTDA
Foundation-led alliance will:
--Improve industrial distribution
training opportunities at Cuyahoga
Community College (Tri-C) in
Cleveland, Ohio.
--Actively promote
careers in the industrial distribution channel.
--Promote both workforce development and entry-level job placement
for
qualified workers in industrial
distribution positions.
--Work with area employers to help identify their
employment
opportunities and encourage their use
of retention and advancement tools.
“A broad representation of
employers in the Cleveland area already have
worked with Tri-C to create certificate
and degree programs to prepare
individuals for careers in industrial
distribution,” said Ken Miko, PTDA
Foundation trustee and vice president
of Cleveland-based distributor, BDI.
“We look forward to engaging even
more distributors and manufacturers in
the ICP initiative with the resources
provided by The Manufacturing
Institute and the involvement of the
community’s public workforce system,
community-based organizations, WIRE-Net
and other stakeholders.
