PTDA Announces NFPA and FPDA Endorse PPIF
Chicago, Ill. -- August 15, 2006 -- The Power
Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) today announced two new
association endorsers of its Product Price & Information Format
(PPIF) standard.
The National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) and
the Fluid Power Distributors Association (FPDA) join current association
endorsers, the American Bearing Manufacturers Association, Association
for High Technology Distribution, Bearing Specialists Association and
PTDA. PPIF also is currently endorsed by almost 80 PTDA-member
manufacturers and over 60 distributors, with even more firms using it
for updates.
PPIF is a standardized, ASCII format for
electronic transmission of manufacturer price and product updates.
Designed to supersede ANSI X.12 832 and other custom manufacturer
pricing formats, PPIF is a single-format, single-program system that can
be easily installed and used by manufacturers, distributors and original
equipment manufacturers.
The ASCII format eliminates the need for
significant software expenditure by users and may be transmitted via
mail, e-mail or the Internet. Version 2.0 (released October 2005)
currently is in use.
Already in use in the bearing, gearing, high
tech and power transmission product segments, the PPIF benefits
distributors and manufacturers directly:
--Greater Savings: Manufacturers
provide/distributors receive product and price updates in a single
format, dramatically reducing the cost to create, transmit, process and
upload these files.
--Improved Accuracy: Eliminates the need for manual re-keying of
vendor data.
--Faster Updates: Reduces time to upload and implement updates,
minimizing debit and credit processing erros.
To maximize the benefits of the PPIF for member
companies and the industrial distribution channel, PTDA is focused
on:
--Increasing adoption and use by industrial
distributors and manufacturers to maximize channel efficiencies.
--Encouraging distribution software providers to incorporate the PPIF
into their next updates to further simplify uploading data for
distributors.
--Protecting standard integrity by strongly encouraging users to
provide/request only compliant files.
Key campaign elements include encouraging PTDA
member-endorsers to promote the format to their business partners and
software providers, outreach to other distribution associations, and
editorial placements in industry trade publications.
More information on PPIF v. 2.0, including a
complete list of endorsers, is available at www.ptda.org/PPIF. The format
and detailed implementation documentation are available for free
