PTDA 2007 Industry Summit Focused on Helping Members Communicate,
Collaborate and Innovate for Business Success
Chicago, Ill. – November 7, 2007 -- For distributors and
manufacturers in the power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) industry,
the recent Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) Industry
Summit held Oct 18-20 in Palm Desert, Calif. provided an exceptional
opportunity to network, learn and build business.
A premier industry forum, the 2007 program, themed
“Communicate. Collaborate. Innovate.” brought together
nearly 850 attendees, including 201 distributors and 377 manufacturers,
and international delegates from Australia, Belgium, Canada, France,
Germany, Japan, England, Mexico, the Netherlands and the United
Kingdom.
Highlights of the 2007 Industry Summit included:
- Opening keynote address by Dr. Robert Kriegel on change performance
and innovation. Dr. Kriegel provided attendees with real-life
examples of companies that have gained the competitive edge by thinking
outside the box and re-inventing traditional business strategies.
- Thought-provoking economic update and short-and long-term forecasts
by Alan Beaulieu. With humor and wit, Beaulieu discussed regional
and international economic trends and provided insights on how to
prepare for an economic downturn.
- Two workshops featuring J. Michael Marks of Indian River Consulting
Group:
- Marks’ first session offered innovative approaches to
enhancing your company’s Web site to better serve customers and
streamline operations. “Web sites are best utilized as a
means to connect with customers and suppliers, not sell products,”
said Marks.
- Based on information from his newest book “Working at
Cross-Purposes: How Distributors and Manufacturers Can Manage Conflict
Successfully,” Marks’ session focused on resolving conflicts
successfully between distributors and manufacturers and provided
attendees with ideas on how to best manage relationships for
success.
- With five generations converging in the workplace, traditional
communication strategies are no longer effective. In her workshop,
Marilyn Moats Kennedy described generational characteristics and
motivations and provided a handful of tips to improve
communication.
- Based on information in his new book, “Driving Growth and
Shareholder Value: The Distribution Value Map(TM)” Neil Gholson of
Deloitte Consulting explained how to use the distributor value map model
to assess operational efficiency and market strategies.
Manufacturer-Distributor Idea Exchange (MD-IDEX)
Once again this year, the Industry Summit featured its signature
table-top booth program—the Manufacturer-Distributor Idea Exchange
(MD-IDEX).
With more than 135 manufacturer and service provider participants,
MD-IDEX offered a time-and cost-effective opportunity for members to
conduct one-on-one, senior management discussions with current and
potential business partners.
Motion Control Workshop and Showcase
Helping members find new channels to market and grow their businesses
stood out as a key element of the PTDA Industry Summit.
New this year, the Industry Summit offered members a four-hour
workshop titled “Understanding Basic Motion Control Technologies
and Components.” Led by Charles Bartel of the Association of
International Motion Engineers (AiME), attendees acquired an
understanding of the four basic motion control technologies and learned
how these technologies can be used in factory applications.
For the second year, the Industry Summit hosted the Motion Control
Showcase, featuring exhibits from 25 motion control suppliers.
PTDA members considering expanding into the motion control arena and
looking for additional suppliers to support current offerings viewed
live demonstrations of the latest hardware and gathered information from
the motion control market’s top players.
