PTDA 2006 Industry Summit: Forging Success, Making History
Chicago, Ill. -- May 5, 2006 -- The Power Transmission Distributors
Association (PTDA) 2006 Industry Summit will be held October 26-28 in
Boston, Mass.
Themed “Forging Success, Making History,” the PTDA 2006
Industry Summit is designed to help distributors and manufacturers in
the power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) industry make their mark
on the industry. Educational sessions will help attendees grow
their business and bottom line by honing leadership and talent
management skills, implementing value selling tactics and tools, and
strengthening business relationships.
As the premier networking and educational event for the PT/MC
industry, PTDA’s Industry Summit provides unparalleled networking
opportunities, outstanding educational programming and exceptional
social events. Attended by top-level decision-makers from leading
distributor and manufacturing firms, the summit is a unique mix of
educational sessions on industry trends, distributor-manufacturer
meetings and peer networking forums.
2006 programming will include:
--“Guts to Go Nuts! Learning from Great Companies and
Gutsy Leaders” -- Today’s successful leaders are focused on
increasing profitability, productivity and customer loyalty by building
a dynamic work environment that fully engages employees. Keynoter
Kevin Freiberg will challenge attendees to make work fun and unleash
employee talent. Drawing on lessons from great companies and gutsy
leaders, the session will focus on how members can turn passion and
leadership into high levels of performance and profits.
--“Value Selling” -- Remaining competitive in
today’s business environment requires delivering a unique value
proposition to customers, documenting value and getting paid for that
value. In a workshop session targeted at executive managers, Joe
Ellers of Palmetto Associates will discuss how to prepare salespeople to
communicate with customers using total acquisition cost and value
messages to overcome price objections.
--“Sales Automation: Tools or Toys?” -- In the race to
increase sales effectiveness and improve customer service, it’s
easy to focus on the features of automation tools (or toys), rather than
their likely ROI. As part of this workshop and demonstration, a
panel of PTDA members will discuss factors to consider when analyzing
the cost-benefits of potential technologies; getting sales force buy-in;
deploying tools for multiple purposes; and the importance of technology
in recruiting the next generation of salespeople.
--NEW! Motion Control Showcase -- New this year, the Motion Control
Showcase offers a unique opportunity to learn more about suppliers and
available products in this growing niche. Browse the showcase to
meet motion control manufacturers and view live demonstrations of the
latest hardware. Learn about product and market trends during a
manufacturer presentation. A panel of distributors also will
discuss how to successfully transition into motion control, including
defining your market position, building internal capabilities and
selecting motion control products that compliment your current line
card.
Open to all summit attendees, the showcase is targeted at members
considering expanding into the motion control arena, looking for
additional suppliers to support current offerings, or interested in
networking with other market players.
Other highlights include:
--“Technology Evolution, Demographic Revolution” --
Demographics and technology are converging rapidly with dramatic impact
on daily life and economic trends. While five trends affecting
society will ensure that the next 10 years will be unlike any in human
history, the business opportunities are endless for those willing to
rise to the challenge. Futurist and economist Dr. Lowell Catlett
will provide an overview of the state of the economy, how cultural
changes will impact business, and tactics to adapt to these trends to
ensure profitability and success.
--“Talent Management” -- In this tactical workshop, Chris
Freiburger, principal of Human Capital Management Group, Inc., will
define the components of talent management, outline its importance for
companies of all sizes and challenge attendees to think differently
about their people. Geared towards smaller companies, the session
will define practical actions that can provide immediate results,
including employee coaching, leadership development and succession
planning.
--“Artistry of Leadership: Creating Meaningful
Connections” -- Inspired leaders spark imagination and trigger
innovation, achieving unprecedented synergy and teamwork, enhanced
employee productivity and accelerated business performance. With a
Yamaha Grand Piano as the focal point and his original piano music as
the medium, Kevin Asbjörnson, MIM, PianoOne LLC, will discuss how
business owners and managers can tap into their own powers of focus,
visioning and listening to unlock their organizations’ creative
potential and create meaningful connections with employees and
customers.
--The Industrial Careers Pathway -- In this informative session, a
panel of industry champions and school partners will discuss the PTDA
Foundation’s Industrial Careers Pathway (SM) initiative, including
the benefits, challenges and how-tos of introducing the program at a
local college. Topics will include engaging local distributors and
manufacturers, choosing a good school partner, promoting careers in
industrial distribution, and opportunities for attendees to create their
own solutions to recruit and develop employees.
--“Manufacturer-Distributor Idea Exchange” (MD-IDEX) --
Meet one-on-one with current and potential business partners as part of
the Manufacturer-Distributor Idea Exchange (MD-IDEX). Structured
as a tabletop environment, MD-IDEX allows distributors to book advance
appointments or to take advantage of unscheduled “open” time
to meet with senior management from leading manufacturers.
--Off-property networking event on the 50th floor of the Prudential
Center, offering spectacular, 360-degree views of the city skyline
--Golf outing at Granite Links Golf Course, Boston’s newest
18-hole championship course.
