PT/MC Manufacturers Experienced Slight Increase in Orders
According to PTDA's July 2009 Market Outlook Report
Chicago, Ill. — September
10, 2009 — Both Canadian and U.S. manufacturers
experienced a drop in sales in July 2009 according to sales data
released by the Power Transmission Distributors Association
(PTDA). Confidence in both the Canadian and U.S. market (as
measured on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being most optimistic) rose
slightly by 0.1 from last month to 4.5 and 4.9 respectively.
U.S. manufacturers’ sales fell
by 10.4 percent in July 2009 when compared to June 2009. Sales in
July 2009 fell 38 percent compared to the same period last year.
Orders in July 2009 increased slightly by 1.4 percent over June 2009
orders.
Canadian manufacturers’ sales
fell 11.6 percent compared to June 2009. Sales were down 29.6
percent when compared to the same period last
year.
Product-by-product sales between June
2009 and July 2009 reflect the change in sales experienced by U.S. and
Canadian manufacturers. All nine product categories for U.S.
manufacturers posted sales losses. For Canadian manufacturers,
five product categories posted sales gains—including a 53.3
percent increase for clutches and brakes. Other growth categories
include mounted bearings, shaft couplings, standard industrial motors,
and mechanical drive systems and other PT products.
