Committee Objectives and Projects
Communications Committee
Staff liaison: Mary Neil Crosby
Purpose: Reach deeper and wider within the member companies
(i.e., employees beyond the C-suite level) to increase active
participation of members employees in PTDA programs. Create an
understanding and appreciation of industrial distribution throughout the
distribution channel and among the general public.
Education & Training Committee
Staff liaison: Kelly Butler
Purpose: Promote, develop and deploy education and training
programs/services/resources that result in member companies ability to
recruit and retain knowledgeable and customer-focused employees and that
address the product knowledge needs of member employees.
Membership Committee
Staff liaison: Brenda Holt
Purpose: Retain and recruit members.
Programs & Products Committee
Staff liaison: Brenda Holt
Purpose: Promote, develop and deploy
programs/services/resources (exclusive of education and training
programs) that address the needs of PTDA member
companies.
Research & Innovation Committee
Staff liaison: Mary Neil Crosby
Purpose: Research and define new programs and products to
address members needs.
Other Important Things You Need to Know About PTDA Committees
Tenure on PTDA Standing Committees
PTDA has one-year terms for all committee members, renewable each
year at the invitation of the PTDA president and the acceptance by the
volunteer.
Frequency of meetings
Determined by the chair and demands of the
committees projects, typically:
Full day meeting in conjunction with the Spring Leaders
Conference (March).
Half day meeting at the PTDA Industry Summit (requires early
arrival).
Additional in-person or teleconference meetings as
necessary.
Cost to you
Airfare and hotel fees: PTDA pays for all meeting related meals.
Time commitment: Two meetings per year (one at the Industry Summit),
conference calls as required, participation in at least one
project-driven task force and commitment to follow-through on
assignments.
Committee/staff interaction
Committee members provide the industry knowledge and expertise to
assess and conceptualize programs and services for the membership.
Projects are assigned to a task force, with staff providing the project
management roles of drafting, communications and implementation.
Committee structure
Each committee has up to 15 members, balanced between distributors
and manufacturers and a designated chair, appointed by the President of
PTDA. Committees also have a vice chair, selected by the committee
chair and confirmed by the PTDA President. Each committee has at
least two liaisons: a staff liaison who manages projects for the
committee, and a board liaison, a director of PTDA's Board, who provides
policy linkage between the Committee and the Board.
Committee member job description
Together with other committee members, each committee member is
responsible for fulfilling the roles and responsibilities assigned by
the committees leadership to ensure that the objectives of the
committee are achieved. Additionally, the following specific
responsibilities apply:
- Actively participate in the committees meetings and the formulation
of the approach to the work assigned by the Associations board of
directors.
- Prepare for each committee meeting by completing assignments on a
timely basis, reporting the results of your work and reading materials
distributed prior to the meeting.
- Be available to staff, the committee chair, vice chair, task force
leaders and other committee members between meetings.
- Serve on at least one committee task force.
